The onboarding document is designed to equip you with the information and support needed to integrate smoothly into the club and excel in your role. Administrative Tasks
- Ensure you have been added to Microsoft Teams.
- Ensure you have been added to the Airtable workspace.
- Ensure you have been added to the GitHub organization.
- Complete this contact form.
- Ensure president & social media manager have access to gmail account.
- Ensure president, vp, & secretary have access to uab email.
Responsibilities and Expectations
- Review our constitution for a list of responsibilities for your role.
- Read the SOPs for further details on your role.
- You are expected to attend all executive board meetings unless there is a schedule conflict and most of our Informatics Club events barring scheduling events.
- It is understood that your graduate degree takes priority, but it’s critical to communicate to the president when you are unable to attend meetings or events. We expect you to miss a few events and meetings over the year.
- Our organization has thrived on collaboration within the executive board, with members, and with other groups on campus. Keep an open mind and feel free to contribute any ideas you may have. There are no real limitations. We can accomplish anything as a team.
- If the responsibilities of your role ever become overwhelming, please let us know, and we will find a way to help or resolve any issues.
Transition Meeting
- The transition meeting allows outgoing officers to share information with incoming officers.
- Meet with the outgoing officer to go over your role. This is typically done at a transition meeting.
- This meeting typically takes place before the start of the fall semester.
- We encourage you to meet with the outgoing officer after the transition meeting if you have any further questions or concerns about your role.
General Best Practices
- Effective communication
- We typically communicate via GroupMe and emails.
- Ensure you cc: GRP-informatics-club@uab365.onmicrosoft.com for important correspondence.
- Please respond to emails and Microsoft Teams messages within a week.
- Ensure these onboarding documents are updated.
- Any food orders should be forwarded to the Informatics Club Treasurer & President.
- Collaboration and teamwork
- We are at our best as a team.
- Always try to collaborate with executive board members.
- Share knowledge freely and constantly.
- Leverage the strengths of other officers! You can’t be great at everything.
- Time management
- As stated earlier, if you become overwhelmed, please don’t hesitate to ask for help. We’re a team!
- Be sure to delegate tasks whenever possible.
- Collaborate and set deadlines!
- Professionalism and representation
- We are the only Informatics Club on campus, and many people know we exist.
- We were recently awarded the Campus Impact Award and hope to build upon this.
- Many students will view you as a valuable resource on campus for Bioinformatics, Data Science, and related fields.
- Always treat people with respect.
